History

The Salesian Presence in Devadurga began in May 1996, when the Bishop of Bellary invited the Salesians to take up the most backward mission centers in the northern part of the dioceses in the districts of Raichur and Gulbarga.

Initially, there were 33 Catholic Families, comprising 212 persons, spread over 9 villages, and the vast majority of the adults were illiterate. In 2001, a boarding school was launched for the education of children. On 24 November 2001, Rt. Rev. Dr Joseph D’Silva, the Bishop of Bellary, entrusted the parish of Sahayamathe at Devadurga to the Salesians in perpetuity. An English-medium School was started in 2003. The school provides an excellent opportunity for children from remote areas and backwards sections of the society to have access to quality education.
